Presenter and Bio Info: Sheri Bulwa, Barb Caines, and Doug Schiller
Intended Audience: Social Workers
Activity Description: Anxiety – it’s skyrocketing and getting younger.
As many of you have mentioned over the years, the concerning numbers of students presenting with significantly impaired functioning due to anxiety has continued to grow and is presenting earlier and earlier despite skillful interventions. Perhaps this might suggest there is something happening systematically, larger than us, that would also require a new perspective and multi systemic approach. As social workers, we are not only clinically trained but also trained to look at the interface and impact of the many systemic effects in a student's world – ie- the 21st century, including the ever changing fast paced Western societal effects and demands, the presence of technology, and the challenges in educational systems today. Our discussion will be guided by the question "how do we break this down for ourselves and ideally for our learning communities as a collaborative effort to provide the needed support?"
Please join other Social Workers for a time of sharing observations, ideas, and interventions as we come together to discuss the above topic and how to support our school communities.
