Presenters: Sheena Watterson- NSSED District Services Coach and Kristen Kinsey, NSSED Instructional Coach

Intended Audience: Certified Staff implementing or supporting literacy instruction

Activity Description: The presenters will briefly review the 5 big areas of literacy. The presenters will also go through Six Instructional Methods to support reading comprehension, which include Student Centered Planning, Interactive Read Alouds, Shared/Performance Reading, Writing About Reading, Guided Reading and Literature Studies.  Following the Instructional Methods, the group will review Student Strategies to support comprehension, which include Monitoring, Summarizing, Predicting, Synthesizing, Inferring, Connecting, Analyzing and Critiquing.

Learning Objectives: Participants will identify an instructional method to try out or update in their classroom
Participants will identify student strategies and specific activities to embed in their instruction

PD Hours: 3
Registration/Coffee: 8:00 am to 8:30 am
Session: 8:30 am to 11:30 am
