Intended Audience: Educators that participate in the evaluation process for determining eligibility for special education services in the school setting. This may include psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and special education teachers. This training will address all student age ranges.

Activity Description: Participants will be provided a rationale for using the autism eligibility framework as well as an in depth understanding of the steps in the process and how they benefit parents, teams, and students. Participants will increase their familiarity of various assessment tools used to gather information to guide meaningful conversations around student needs. Lastly, participants will learn how to organize and effectively communicate assessment results with parents and fellow team members to continue framing meaningful conversations around student supports.

Learning Objectives:

  1. 1. Identify 3 reasons why utilizing  a guiding framework is a effective approach for school-based teams.
  2. 2. Understand the steps of the Autism Eligibility Framework and the action plan involved at each step.
  3. 3. Identify assessment tools to provide information to best determine autism eligibility and gather information to provide a complete education plan for your students.
  4. 4. Practice the use of the framework to have conversations about autism eligibility with your team and with parents.

PD Hours: 6.0
Registration/Coffee: 8:00 am to 8:30 am
Session: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (One hour lunch - on your own)
