Presenter: Laura Swanick, M.S. Ed, provides instructional technology coaching to NSSED programs and districts. Before working at NSSED, Laura was a special education classroom teacher for Orange County Public Schools, assistive technology specialist for ATEN of Florida, assistive technology coordinator for United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego, educational consultant for Mayer-Johnson Inc. and director of training for Assistive Technology Inc. Laura enjoys working with staff, parents, and students helping them integrate technology into the curriculum and their daily lives.

Activity Description: You can use Boardmaker Online to create print-based materials, but did you know you can also create interactive lessons that can be used on a tablet or computer which also track learner data? For students needing extra practice on a given skill or a modified curriculum, this tool is invaluable. In this hands-on session you will learn how to 1) create an interactive activity which is 2) tied to common core objectives and 3) tracks student performance. We will start by reviewing sample lessons and templates. Next, we will go over the basics of programming interactive lessons using Boardmaker Online. Then, we will have time to chart student objectives and visualize a lesson to help teach to those skills. Participants will create their own customized lessons and/or search for lessons on Boardmaker Share - which they can modify.
Afterwards, we will practice adding students to the BM Online roster and assigning lessons to those students. Finally, we will highlight how students can access lessons on the iPad or computer and how performance data can then be viewed. Participants will share activities and bring them back to the classroom for use with students to meet learning targets and increase engagement.
Learning Objectives: Participants will:
- 1) learn to use Boardmaker Online to create a lesson with specific student/class objectives and which tracks student performance.
- 2) add students to your roster, assign lessons, and setup iPad/computers for student use.
- 3) share at least one activity with other participants and use it with students back in the classroom.
