The Association of Parents and Staff (APS) is an organization of parents who have children with special needs in any of NSSED's 18 member school districts, and the staff who serve them. Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of our children with disabilities through advocacy, partnership and support. Together with our staff partners, we hope to heighten awareness and understanding of learning differences, provide ongoing training and education, and offer support and connections to all.

Presented by: Bobby Hanson and Jenny Knudson
Join us as we share and discuss best practice methodologies and frameworks, including Social Thinking©, and strategies to utilize in supporting children and young adults with social learning differences. Discussion will include the components of social competency and strategies to model, teach, and support your child as they increase their awareness of how they interact with the social world around them and adapt their behavior. Presenters will speak to their unique experiences learning, coaching, and supporting students and staff throughout NSSED and the member school districts.

Jennifer Knudson is a autism coach and speech-language pathologist who has worked in the member districts of NSSED for the past 11 years. She received her Masters of Arts degree in speech-language pathology at Wichita State University and has recently completed Social Thinking© Clinical Training. Ms. Knudson is highly regarded for her work in helping students with social communication and emotional regulation differences find success in general education classrooms.

Robert Hanson is an autism/behavior coach working within North Shore Academy and many member districts of NSSED. He received his Masters in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University and has worked at Chicago Children's Clinic, Keshet, and Wilmette Public Schools prior to coming to NSSED four years ago. He has certification in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) and is clinically trained in the Social Thinking© methodology
