Intended Audience: Certified Staff working with students on the autism spectrum or other similar learning profiles.
Activity Description: Day 1 will provide an overview of Applied Behavior Analysis and why we use it. The verbal behavior terminology will be reviewed, examples will be provided, and videos will be shown to help gain a strong understanding of each operant. Intensive teaching procedures will be discussed and participants will have an opportunity to practice these procedures.
Day 2 will provide a review from day 1 and an overview of the VB-MAPP Assessment (Verbal Behavior- Milestones Assessment and Placement Program) tool including: the different components of it, how to administer it, how to interpret the results, and next steps once it is complete, including IEP goal development.
Learning Objectives: Day 1: Participants will have a general understanding of applied behavior analysis and its use in teaching students that require systematic instruction. Participants will learn about verbal behavior as an instructional methodology that fall within ABA practices. Participants will gain introductory skills of intensive teaching procedures through practice.
Day 2: Participants will gain general knowledge of the assessment and programming tool, the VB-MAPP (Verbal Behavior-Milestones Assessment & Placement Program). Participants will gain introductory skills in how to use the tool, VB-MAPP, for student programming and IEP development.
PD Credit Hours: 4.0 per day

Session: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm; Lunch: (One hour - on your own.)
