Presenter: Dr. Paula Kluth is a consultant, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to create more responsive and engaging experiences for all learners.

Intended Audience: This series is geared toward general education teachers in combination with special education teachers and support staff.  If you are a special education teacher or support staff , please do NOT come alone.  This session will only be valuable if your general education partners are in collaboration with you in the learning.

Description: Our teachers are faced with classrooms that are filled with students with a wide range of interests, skills, and experiences.  While the diversity fosters opportunity to learn and share with each other, our teachers are faced with the challenge of facilitating learning for each of their students in the classroom.

This four-day session will provide teachers with strategies to apply in their classrooms to meet the diverse range of learners.  Over the course of the four days educators will:

  • Review research on the long term impact of providing access to all learners;
  • Identify ideas for creating the environment for all students in our buildings, schools, and districts; and
  • Identify best practices in curriculum, instruction, collaboration, and personnel support.

Educators will learn strategies and supports that are critical to the success of all learners in school and classrooms.  These strategies include:

  • Active learning/movement;
  • Video modeling/use of visuals;
  • Use of AAC and communication supports;
  • Supporting fascinations and student interests; and
  • Role sharing and paraprofessional collaboration.
