Presenters: Megan Brown and Susan Foster are AAC Consultants/Coaches on the Integrated Technology Support Team at the Northern Suburban Special Education District. They are Speech-Language Pathologists with experience working in NSSED programs and with NSSED member districts. They have extensive experience working with students who require augmentative or alternative means of communication. They are both Certified TouchChat Trainers.
Intended Audience: Assistive Technology Professionals, Speech-Language Pathologists, Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Parents, Occupational/Physical Therapists
Activity Description: TouchChat is a full-featured communication application for individuals who have difficulty using their natural voice. TouchChat is designed for individuals with apraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, or other conditions that affect a person's ability to use natural speech to communicate effectively.
During this course you will receive an overview of the TouchChat application and learn how to complete basic editing of the program.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the different vocabularies available within the TouchChat application
- Identify which vocabulary users may be appropriate for their students
- Be able to perform basic programming functions within the TouchChat application in order to customize the vocabulary users for their students
- Be able to backup users to a cloud based service or iTunes account to store information.
