Intended Audience: Teachers, teaching assistants and other school staff who will be implementing the program within approximately the next two months of school. Reading Mastery Classic Levels 1 and 2 is appropriate for students who are beginning readers and is most frequently used at Tiers 2 and 3 in the elementary grades.
Reading Mastery (RM) Classic Levels 1 and 2 focuses on teaching beginning readers how to read and comprehend. Decoding is taught through an explicit phonics method that stresses letter sounds and blending. Students learn letter sounds, read regularly spelled words presented in lists and in decodable stories. They also learn basic reasoning skills, such as making inferences and drawing conclusions, and apply these skills as they answer interpretive comprehension questions related to the stories. Reading Mastery Classic is a proven research-based program that has been helping young children learn to read for more than thirty-five years.
