Be@the Farm

Join our CSA at Be@the Farm

The Northern Suburban Special Education District (NSSED) is pleased to introduce “Be@the Farm”, a partnership program with Wagner Farm in Glenview.

NSSED’s Be@the Farm is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) entity that is similar to a booster club at other schools or districts.  Produce grown by our students is distributed to Be@the Farm booster club members.  On July 31 we had our first harvest from the vegetable garden.  Members of our booster club enjoyed receiving cabbage, peppers and pickles.  On August 30 we held our first farmers market at the NSSED District Service Center.

Our partnership with Wagner Farm provides an opportunity for NSSED students to receive agricultural instruction outside of the school setting and a community-based experience that supports overall skill development for their future endeavors.

The program will provide Wagner Farm the establishment of an ongoing exhibit in their greenhouse and the potential development of a FFA site (Future Farmers of America.)

An additional benefit of the program is the opportunity it provides for members of the general public to be involved with our students, through volunteer and booster club support.

As a member of the Be@the  Farm booster club, you become a part of an exciting community partnership initiative.   Your support provides us the funding for uniforms, supplies for the greenhouse, outdoor planting, and winter projects – all of which are costs that fall outside what is traditionally budgeted for our instructional programs.  We will keep you updated on our activities at the Farm, our market schedule and, in general, how things are growing.   Click here for information on joining the booster club.

If you are interested in volunteering directly with our students when they are at the Farm, or in general support of their work, please email  volunteer @nssed.org, or visit us at www.nssed.org/volunteering .
