When accessing NSSED's Coaching and Consultation services, you can expect that a specially trained staff member will work with you to 1) identify needs, 2) set goals, 3) implement a plan of action, and 4) evaluate outcomes. Coaching and consultation can target needs at the individual student, classroom, school, or district-levels. Our coaches approach each collaboration and consultation as a partnership. When coaches and staff interact together equally and as partners, the outcomes are maximized. These services are designed to support and compliment the instruction and services that students are receiving in their home schools and communities. The ultimate goal is to increase the capacity of the educators that are receiving the coaching to meet the academic and behavioral needs and improve the outcomes of ALL students.
Autism
NSSED Autism Coaches provide workshops, on-site training, technical support and coaching on researched-based interventions and best practices in order to support and empower school teams to improve outcomes for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A collaborative team approach is used so we can maximize our student’s fullest potential regardless of the difficulties they may face in learning communication and language, academics, social-emotional skills and independence.

Instruction and Assessment / Response to Intervention
NSSED provides leadership in best practices in instruction and assessment for all students. Our experience with team based problem solving, data based decision making, and research based instruction stretches over the last two decades. NSSED continues to provide high quality consultation and technical assistance to districts in their implementation of RtI.

Assistive Technology
Students with and without identified disabilities can struggle in school with reading, writing, math, organization, communication, physically accessing the computer and other materials, and mobility. Assistive technology (AT) can be used to help students overcome these challenges and be successful in the classroom. AT consultants are available to conduct assessments for individual students in order to identify the technology that meets their specific needs or to provide consultation on individual students on how best to utilize the technology that is already available to them. AT consultants are also available to provide coaching to educators on how to address the needs of a small group of students who are struggling or even how to design the learning environment so that all students can participate to the greatest degree possible.

Transition Consulting and Support
NSSED’s transition consultants provide direct support to families and children to best ensure they are connected and supported by agencies and the community post graduation. Students within NSSED Programs receive transition consultation as a part of their IEP. Our member district are supported through transition consultation services to their existing educational programs. All transition consultation is created in collaboration with the full Individual Education Plan (IEP) team.
