Description: This is a two-part hands-on training series designed to help school teams link assessment in the area of writing to the Problem Solving Process. Specific topics will include 1) a framework for understanding written expression, determining level of writing skill discrepancy, 2) understanding how to assess for specific skill and performance deficits in the area of writing, and 3) linking assessment information to instructional and compensatory strategies.
Requirements for Participants:
Attend both half-day workshops
Completion of an application exercise utilizing a practice student case
Key outcomes for Day 1:
Understand the essentional components of the writing process and identify appropriate tools for assessment
Make a plan for implementing this assessment process with one or more students in your building/district
Key outcomes for Day 2:
Understand how to make conclusions based on assessment data and link this information to appropriate interventions
Develop a plan to implement writing intervention and compensatory strategies and monitor progress for one or more students in your building/district
