The NSSED/APS Parent Mentor is available to:

1. Provide workshops for parents, school personnel and community members. Workshop titles include but are not limited to:

Special Education 101: Understanding the Basics of Special Education.

The IEP Process: A Parent’s Perspective. A session on collaborative problem solving.

2. Assist families in locating and accessing community resources.

3. Assist parents in learning about the special education process, i.e. forms, evaluations, meetings formats.

4. Provide consultative services to both parents and staff when communications strategies need to be evaluated for better outcomes.

5. Help parents better prepare for participation in their individual child's IEP meeting. This service includes helping parents write a parent report for submission to the rest of the team.
